Over the weekend, officers with Timmins Police Service teamed up with the Ontario Provincial Police’s SAVE Unit to enforce snowmobile safety by patrolling the trails in the area.
Officials had issued a warning to snow machine owners in advance about the initiative to crack down on operators who alter the exhaust systems on their machines.
The officers rode area trails belonging to the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs to ensure riders were complying with the Motorized Snow Vehicles Act.
A total of 28 Provincial Offence Notices were handed out:
- 24 for modified exhaust systems
- 3 failing to have a trail permit
- 1 document related charge
Over 50 verbal warnings were given out as well for a variety of snow vehicle infractions.
It is the responsibility of the snowmobile operators to ensure they are in full compliance while out enjoying this popular winter past time.
CTV News Northern Ontario's Lydia Chubak will have more on the story shortly.
