SUDBURY -- The Porcupine Health Unit (PHU) reported three new positive cases of COVID-19 on Sunday morning, with one linked to the outbreak at Kapuskasing Extidenicare and the other two from individuals residing in the area of Hearst, Hornepayne.
The news bulletin issued by the PHU on Jan. 17 did not confirm if the positive test connected to the outbreak at Extendicare was returned from an employee or a resident.
PHU declared an outbreak at the LTC facility on Jan. 7 and the new positive case is the seventh confirmed since the control measure was issued.
Public health officials are still investigating how the two individuals from the area of Hearst, Hornepayne were exposed. Contact tracing is currently underway and the health unit is working to identify any potential close contacts.
There are currently 23 active cases is the PHU district.
There have been 167 positive cases recorded in the area since in the pandemic began.
