A 57-year-old suspect has been charged following an incident early Monday morning in Sundridge.

Ontario Provincial Police responded to call just after midnight along with paramedics to a resident on John Street in the community.

“Investigation revealed that a person lit their residence on fire and barricaded themselves inside the residence,” police said in a news release.

“Out of concern for their safety, police entered the residence and located the person with a knife in hand. Consequently, the person was arrested safely by officers and transported to hospital for assessment.”

The suspect is charged with arson-related charges, assaulting police, assault and resisting arrest.

The accused was remanded into custody and awaits a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Parry Sound.
