A 19-year-old from Sudbury who was already on probation has been charged with impaired driving following a crash on Manitoulin Island on July 13.

Ontario Provincial Police responded to the single-vehicle crash at 2 a.m., which took place on Highway 540 in Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands.

“Police arrived on scene and determined there were no injuries for the lone occupant of the vehicle,” the OPP said in a news release Wednesday.

“Upon speaking with the driver, police were able to determine that the driver had consumed alcoholic beverages. The driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.”

Charges include impaired driving, breaching probation and being a novice driver with any amount of alcohol in their bloodstream.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on Aug. 27.

The driver was issued a 90-day driver’s licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
