The Timmins Police Service is investigating an alleged attempted murder incident that occurred early Sunday morning.

Officers responded to reports of shots fired along Way Avenue, near Mountjoy Street South.

Police managed to secure the scene where a 23-year-old male from Quebec allegedly sustained injuries from a firearm-related injury.

The victim was transported to hospital where police say he was undergoing surgery.

“At present, the investigators with the criminal investigation division are completing interviews of those witnesses who were present - either leading up to the event or immediately thereafter," Marc Depatie of the Timmins Police Service told CTV News. "There’s also the collection of forensic evidence by our forensic team as well. These things brought together should identify the suspect. We are forming a decent picture of what happened.”

The investigation is being completed by the Criminal Investigations Division along with the Forensic Identification Unit.

Police believe this was an isolated incident and are not concerned of any ongoing threat to public safety.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Timmins Police Service or Crime Stoppers.
