SAULT STE. MARIE -- The City of Sault Ste. Marie is taking proactive measures is dealing with the COVID-19 outbreak by closing all of its facilities to the public.
The closure also includes access to the Civic Centre.
“The city is committed to taking the appropriate measures to protect the health and safety of our staff and the community at large,” said Mayor Christian Provenzano. ”We will continue to follow the advice of public health experts, while making sure to provide essential services.”
City transit users will be provided with regular service for those that require essential travel only, according to a city release.
Riders will also be asked to enter through the rear door, for social distancing protocol.
Residents requiring access to city-related business are asked to do so online, by phone, through email and regular mailing.
The city is also asking anyone that requires in-person interaction, to delay all business.
The shutdown goes into effect March 20 and will last until at least April 6.
