Greater Sudbury police say a man was killed and his female passenger injured when they were ejected from a vehicle in Chelmsford on Sunday afternoon.

Emergency crews were dispatched to a single-vehicle crash on Nickel Offset Road just before 3 p.m. Nov. 3, Greater Sudbury Police Service said in a news release.

"The preliminary investigation indicates that the driver was doing a donut in an open field when the driver lost control of the vehicle, resulting in a rollover," police said.

"Both occupants, who were not wearing seatbelts, were ejected from the vehicle during the incident."

The driver, a 27-year-old man, sustained critical injuries.

Firefighters were first on the scene and despite life-saving measures, the driver was pronounced dead.

The woman, 21, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

"Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of the deceased," police said.

"His name will not be released out of respect for his family’s wishes."

The investigation is continuing.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call police at 705-675-9161 ext. 2146.
