SUDBURY -- A 26-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman are facing break and enter charges following two smash-and-grab robberies in the city in October and November.
The first took place Oct. 15 at a business on Churchill Avenue in New Sudbury.
"It was discovered that the business had been broken into overnight," Greater Sudbury Police said Thursday in a news release. "A window of the business had been smashed and when the owner entered the business, it was obvious that the business had been ransacked."
Items worth about $10,000 were stolen, including cigarettes, drinks, electronics, scratch tickets and money from the cash register.
After reviewing security footage, police determined a man and a woman were responsible for the break-in. Then, at around 3:30 a.m. on Nov. 6, police received an alarm call from a local business on Elm Street.
"Officers arrived on scene a short time later and found the glass front door of the business had been broken by what appeared to be a rock," police said. "Officers retrieved and reviewed video surveillance from the business and were able to determine that a man and a woman were responsible."
Police determined it was the same people from the October break and enter. On Nov. 11, police found them walking down Notre Dame Avenue and arrest them without incident.
They are each charged with two counts of break and enter, possession of stolen property and trafficking in stolen property.
They were released on an undertaking with a court date of Feb. 3, 2021.
