Man, 73, on mobility scooter killed in crash with vehicle in New Sudbury

A 73-year-old man on a mobility scooter was killed Sunday night in Sudbury after being hit by a vehicle on Lasalle Boulevard and Barry Downe Road.

Officers were called just after 8:30 p.m. Sept. 29 following the collision, Greater Sudbury Police Service said in a news release Monday.

"First responders arrived on scene and began life-saving measures on the 73-year-old man who had been struck," police said.

"Greater Sudbury Paramedic Services transported the man to the hospital; however, he was unfortunately pronounced deceased by medical professionals."

The crash is being investigated by the Sudbury police traffic management unit.

"Based on the investigation, it has been determined that impairment by alcohol or drugs was not a factor in this motor vehicle collision," police said.

"No charges have been laid thus far."

Investigators are looking for witnesses and anyone with information is asked to call 705-675-9171 ext. 2421.

"(The victim's) name will not be released out of respect for his family’s wishes," police said.

"Our deepest condolences go out to all those affected by this tragic event."
