SUDBURY -- The positive COVID-19 test result at Cassellholme long-term care home in North Bay was a true positive, the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit said Monday.

The health unit said a microbiologist at the Ontario Public Health Lab in Toronto confirmed the test result, adding the patient has since recovered.

"The person who tested positive has since received two negative tests and therefore their COVID-19 case is resolved," the health unit said in a news release Monday. "Cassellholme will remain in outbreak."

The case was discovered May 4. Ontario Ministry of Health guidelines require LTC homes to declare an outbreak when one case is discovered. An outbreak can't be declared over until 14 days pass without a positive case of COVID-19.

Testing of all residents and staff continues at the direction of the province, the release said, and is on track to be completed before the province’s deadline of May 15.

"Currently, there is no specific treatment for COVID-19," the release said. "It is important to remember that most people with COVID-19 have no symptoms or mild symptoms. People who are mildly ill should isolate and care for themselves at home. Most will recover in one to two weeks by simply treating the symptoms."
