Heavy police presence in Haileybury, Cobalt for investigation: OPP

One person has been arrested and provincial police in the Temiskaming area of northern Ontario are asking the public to stay away from two separate areas as the investigation continues.

On social media Sunday evening, Ontario Provincial Police warned of an increased presence of officers at Algonquin Drive in Haileybury and Upper Helen Street & Prospect Avenue in nearby Cobalt.

"No threat to public safety," OPP said around 8:30 p.m. Nov. 3.

"Please refrain from these areas as to not impede with the investigation."

Jessica Rhame lives in Cobalt and told CTVNewsNorthernOntario.ca in a message that she came across an area cordoned off by police Sunday night around 6:20 p.m.

She took a photo of the scene on Prospect Avenue at Upper Helen Street showing at least four police cars, an ambulance and transit bus inside the taped off section of the road.

No word yet on what type of investigation it is.

OPP Const. Martin Thibault told CTV News in an email Monday afternoon, the criminal investigation branch is involved and they are waiting for approval to release the information.
