SUDBURY -- Two people from Greater Sudbury and one from Toronto have been arrested in a major drug bust in the city.
Police seized cocaine, fentanyl, meth as well as cash in the raids, which took place at 11 p.m. Nov. 4 at three addresses in Greater Sudbury.
"The total street value of the drugs seized is an estimated $27,000," police said in a news release Friday. "The amount of fentanyl seized represents approximately 490 street level doses that could have reached the community."
The investigation began in October, police said, when detectives "conducted an investigation into a suspected drug distribution criminal enterprise operating within the City of Greater Sudbury."
"The opioid crisis consistently demonstrates the devastating effects of opioids on our community, the province and the nation due to accidental overdoses," police said.
Since November 2019, Sudbury police have been working with the Ontario Provincial Police's organized crime unit on "investigations intending to disrupt drug trafficking operations entering and operating within the City of Greater Sudbury."
In the Nov. 4 raid, police seized 63 grams of cocaine, 49 grams of fentanyl, 114 methamphetamine tablets and $3,350 in cash. The three people arrested have been charged with drug possession, trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime.
"One of the individuals was additionally charged with breach of probation order," police said. "In order to protect the integrity of the investigation, no further details will be provided."
