Sudbury driver arrested for impaired twice in 8 hours
A 38-year-old Sudbury man arrested for impaired driving Monday afternoon was arrested for the same offence early Tuesday morning.
In the process, Sudbury police said he was involved in three collisions, the last one in a ditch in Hanmer.
The first case took place Monday around 4:45 p.m., police said in a news release.
"Officers were dispatched to Lorne Street at Martindale Road in relation to two collisions involving the same vehicle," police said.
"Information provided was that the vehicle was travelling West on Lorne Street when it rear-ended another vehicle that was stopped at a red light. The driver of the vehicle then drove around the stopped vehicle onto Martindale Road where it struck the wigwams for the railroad crossing."
Police arrived and arrested him for dangerous and impaired driving.
"While at police headquarters, the driver assaulted a police officer prior to blowing three times over the legal limit," the release said.
"The driver was additionally charged with assault(ing a) peace officer."
He was released, the vehicle was impounded and the man's driver's licence was suspended.
Police got another call at 12:15 a.m. about a single-vehicle crash on Dominion Drive in Hanmer.
