SUDBURY -- Fall northern Ontario contest is looking for the best photos of Wolf Lake, the world's largest known old-growth red pine forest located near Sudbury.
Wolf Lake is about 50 km northeast of Greater Sudbury and is part of the Chiniguchi waterway.
"People come from around the world to experience the beauty of the towering red pines, quartzite cliffs, and sparkling blue water in this critically endangered ecosystem," said PJ Justason, president of Friends of Temagami in a news release.
Until Oct. 31, people can submit their photos of the lake online here and are encouraged to post on social media by using the hashtag #WolfLakePhoto.
The contest is a collaboration between Sudbury Naturalists, Friends of Temagami, and Coalition for a Liveable Sudbury.
Prizes will be awarded in three categories:
- Nature
- People in nature
- Best photo caption – tell the photo's story in two lines or less
The winners will be announced Nov. 10 at the Sudbury Naturalist Club meeting.
Prizes include:
- Arc'teryx Atom LT Hoody jacket
- Local glass art inspired by Wolf Lake
- Hand-made canoe paddle
- 'Spirit of the Red Pine' art book
Smaller weekly prizes will also be awarded during the contest, by random draw
