A resident got a scare early in the morning Wednesday in Elliot Lake when an unknown man entered their home carrying a knife.

The Amsterdam Road resident called Ontario Provincial Police around 4:30 a.m., saying the knife-wielding intruder "was acting very erratic and looked to be high on drugs."

"Upon police arrival, the man ran out of the residence yelling that there was a bear chasing him," police said in a news release.

"Because of the man's delusional state and threat to public safety involving a knife in his possession, police safely and effectively arrested him and he was taken to the hospital for assessment."

The 27-year-old from Orillia is charged with break and enter and resisting arrest.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court later Wednesday.
