Commercial truck driver in serious condition after Highway 11 crash

Ontario Provincial Police is continuing to investigate a crash involving a single commercial vehicle on Highway 11.

Officers were called to the scene in the Powassan area, about 30 kilometres south of North Bay, just before midnight May 5.

"The northbound (commercial motor vehicle) left the paved portion of the highway, broke through the cable guardrails, and rolled down a steep embankment," OPP said in a news release Sunday morning.

"The lone vehicle occupant suffered serious injuries and was transported to hospital by ambulance."

THAT MORNING

Earlier that morning, another commercial driver was charged with careless driving on the same highway in Smooth Rock Falls, about 450 kilometres north.

The 61-year-old driver from Mississauga went off the road and into the ditch around 4:40 a.m., OPP said.

No one was injured in that incident.

"A driver's decisions affect them, their passengers, other drivers, cyclists and pedestrians," OPP said.
