NORTH BAY -- Canadore College has sent five of its employees home from work as a 'precaution' due to possible exposure to the novel Coronavirus.
George Burton, the college's president and CEO, says the employees affected are from a number of departments within the school who attended the Prospectors and Development Association of Canada 2020 convention in Toronto and. The same event was attended by the Sudbury man who tested positive for COVID-19.
Meanwhile, officials with the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit say there are no confirmed cases of the virus in the North Bay area at this time.
North Bay Mayor Al McDonald, MPP Vic Fedeli and MP Anthony Rota also attended the mining convention. The three politicians say they are not feeling any symptoms, however, McDonald is working from home in self-isolation.
The five Canadore employees have no symptoms at this time and the college is stressing this action is just a precaution.
"We asked the employees to stay home and work from home during their self-monitoring period," Burton said. "The good news is we have no symptoms to report from those five today, and our expectation is they'll be back to work as soon as possible."
Burton says the college is taking extra measures to keep the school as clean as possible with increased sanitization.
There are no plans to close the school at this time.
