A long-time Greater Sudbury community leader has passed away.
David Kilgour died on the weekend.
Kilgour served as a councillor for the City of Greater Sudbury and mayor of Capreol prior to amalgamation.
He's being remembered as a true community leader and someone who loved municipal politics.
"Dave was really a person that everyone on city council relied on, and he was supportive of the Auditor General's role and supportive of this council," said Brian Bigger, Sudbury mayor.
City councillor Deb McIntosh said Kilgour was always willing to share his vast municipal knowledge.
"Sharing what he knew and not in a pushy sort of way, but a gentle way as an elder statesperson would do and I am really going to miss him in that regard," she said.
Mike Jakubo echoes that sentiment and adds he admired Kilgour's unwavering community dedication.
"Dave was always open to any questions, or comments or queries that any of us new councillors did have," Jakubo said.
In Capreol, Kilgour was a key founding member of the Northern Ontario Railroad Museum and his tireless efforts haven't been forgotten.
"A big ideas person," said Cody Cacciotti, Northern Ontario Railroad Museum operations manager.
"A lot of time you would look at Dave and think he was crazy, until he actually got the ball rolling and you would see these are actually going to come to fruition and they were actually going to happen, so (he was) definitely a bit of a dreamer and visionary.
"Dave was an ideas man and a people person. He would put people together with ideas, and always come out on top for Capreol," added Stu Thomas, museum board vice president.
Kilgour is being remembered as an ambassador for Capreol and for his long standing dedication to public service.
A book of condolences is set up at city hall in Sudbury and the Capreol Citizen Service Centre.
Visitation will be held at Lougheed Funeral Home in Hanmer on Thursday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The funeral service will take place on Friday at Our Lady of Peace Church in Capreol starting at 11:00 a.m.
