Woman struck in serious collision in North Bay, road reopened but investigation continues
A vehicle struck a pedestrian Thursday in North Bay, the woman was taken to hospital with “serious injuries,” the North Bay Police Service (NBPS) said in a news release.
The collision occurred sometime before 6 p.m. on Gormanville Road near Birchwood Road, according to NBPS.
“Details are few, however one female pedestrian was taken to hospital with serious injuries,” the news release read.
Gormanville Road reopened about 9:30 p.m. Thursday evening, said police in an update.
"Thank you for your patience," said police.
"Gormanville Road is re-opening as we speak."
According to ‘X,’ formerly Twitter, the roadway was closed from Highway 17 to Jane Street.
North Bay police along with members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on scene to investigate.
“OPP TTCI (Technical Traffic Collision Investigators) are at the scene to provide their services,” police said, in the initial release.
“Please avoid the area, as it will be closed for several hours.”
NBPS had said on its alert service, Alertable, that traffic was being detoured.
Police asked the public not to call 911 for information on the crash or updates on the road closure.
As of 9:30 p.m., there is no updates from police on the condition of the injured pedestrian.
"(The) investigation is continuing," said police in the update.
This is the second serious crash involving a pedestrian in North Bay this month.
Police have not advised of any other injuries and have not released any details about the vehicle or its driver at this time.
