A winter storm with heavy snow blowing today.

Snow, heavy at times, is expected to continue today and persist into this evening. Northeasterly winds gusting to 50 km/h will also produce blowing snow especially in exposed areas.

Total snowfall amount of 15 to 25 cm are likely by this evening.

Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance.

Snowfall warning in effect for:

  • Sault Ste. Marie – St. Joseph Island
  • North Bay – Powassan – Mattawa
  • West Nipissing – French River
  • Blind River – Thessalon
  • Espanola – Killarney

Significant snowfall is expected today.

Snow, heavy at times, will continue today. Total snowfall amounts near 15 cm are likely by the evening. The precipitation may fall as rain along the North Channel shoreline which would reduce snowfall amounts in those areas.

Total snowfall amounts of 15 to 25 cm are likely north of Lake Nipissing, particularly from Temiscaming to Marten River Provincial Park. North Bay will receive 10 to 14 cm of snow, with significantly lesser snow amounts of two to five cm for areas just to the south of Lake Nipissing where more rain is expected.

Hazardous winter driving conditions from very low visibility in snow and local blowing snow in exposed areas are expected today.

Snow is expected to continue today and into this evening. The snow may be mixed with or change to rain over areas near and south of Lake Nipissing. Brief freezing rain is also possible near noon and early this afternoon.

North Bay will be very close to the rain-snow boundary. A slight change in the exact location of this boundary will affect how much snow will fall at that location.

Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Rapidly accumulating snow will make travel difficult. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance.

Hazardous winter driving conditions are likely. Motorists should alter travel plans accordingly.
