Timmins police said the weapons incident that brought a heavy police presence to Sixth Avenue on Saturday has been safely resolved.

The area between Cedar Street North and Pine Street North has been cleared after an investigation earlier in the day where residents in the immediate area were asked to remain in their homes.

"We would like to assure the community that there was no threat to public safety at any time and the situation has been safely resolved," Timmins Police Service said in a news release Saturday afternoon.

Michelle St Louis, a communications coordinator for the Timmins Police Service, said safety is always the top priority.

"We are grateful for the community’s understanding and patience as we carried out our investigation," St. Louis said.

"Thanks to the swift and professional actions of our officers, the situation was resolved without incident."

No word if any arrests were made or charges laid.
