SUDBURY -- Bob Johnston, founder of Tomorrow’s Hope, and members of Grace Family Church in the Donovan came together to make homemade meals with food that was provided to them from the Sudbury Food Bank.
Roughly 100 people lined up for their very own Thanksgiving meal, but some individuals in attendance said it was more than just about the food.
"I don’t have family on the holidays anymore, so coming here was amazing. It’s someone to talk to, someone to eat with," said Shane Vokey, who received a Thanksgiving meal. "They’ve been open since the pandemic started for day shelter, so I’ve been here every day as often as I can."
Emily Reade also received a meal and said the gesture means a lot.
"It’s really nice to have people out there who care and that are giving us food because we have nothing, we have nothing right now," said Reade.
Organizers of Tomorrow’s Hope said they felt supplying food to people in need was the least they could do during the holidays.
"It’s very, very important that these individuals can come out, get a meal, say 'hi.' We all wish each other a happy Thanksgiving," said Johnston. "It doesn’t matter what you have, some have lots and some have little. But, when you get that little 'happy thanksgiving,' it means the world to them."
Clothing items were also available for those who needed them.
"Now with the weather getting cold, we definitely need to provide not just food, but clothing. And we actually got the clothing from several donations, which we are very thankful for and these are donations throughout the community," said Carrie Wasylyk, with Tomorrow’s Hope.
Organizers said they will be serving another takeout meal for those in need on Christmas Day.
