A 31-year-old suspect has been charged after police in Sudbury received a call about someone brandishing a handgun Monday morning on College Street.

Police arrived at a residential building shortly after 8:35 a.m. after a caller reported that three people were having an argument that escalated to the point that one of them pulled out a handgun.

"The individual with the alleged handgun then left the residential unit and attended a separate unit inside the same building," Sudbury police said in a news release Tuesday.

"Due to the possible presence of a firearm, officers from patrol operations set up containment of the building while awaiting the arrival of the emergency response unit, K9 unit and negotiator."

The trio surrendered at 11:10 a.m. without incident. Officers then cleared the unit to ensure that no one else was inside.

A search warrant uncovered an imitation handgun.

The suspect has been charged with numerous weapons offences, two counts of uttering threats and two charges related to violating probation orders.

They will appear in bail court Tuesday.

The two other individuals taken into custody weren't charged in connection with the weapons incident, but both had outstanding arrest warrants that were executed prior to their release.
