SAULT STE. MARIE -- Two men in Sault Ste. Marie are facing multiple charges following an overnight drug and weapons bust in the city’s east end.

According to police, two suspects threatened to shoot staff members at a business, located in the 700 block of Trunk road, shortly after 12:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Police say they managed to arrest one suspect, who attempted to flee on foot.

They add a second suspect, who fled the scene in a vehicle, was arrested on Trunk Road just before 1:30 a.m.

During the arrests, police say they found a loaded handgun, a scale and around $57,000 in narcotics, including cocaine, crystal meth, oxycodone and fentanyl.

“I want people to be aware of what fentanyl and meth and oxy’s and cocaine looks like,” said Chief Hugh Stevenson of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service. “Some people may be ignorant to what it looks like and miss the opportunity to tell friends and family to save a life.”

Around $37,000 in cash was also confiscated.

Police have charged a 27-year-old male and 18-year-old male, both of Toronto, with multiple drugs and weapons charges
