Two arrested following shooting on Manitoulin Island
The Manitoulin detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police have two people in custody following a shooting incident in Wikwemikong Unceded Territory on Thursday.
The incident began around 7:30 a.m. Manitoulin OPP, the Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service and EMS responded to reports of a shooting in the area of Rabbit Island Road and Tomas Lane in Wikwemikong Unceded Territory.
"The altercation resulted in one person sustaining serious but non-life-threatening injuries," the OPP said in a news release.
"As a result, two people have been safely taken into custody, and there is no threat to public safety. Members of the community can expect to see an increased presence of OPP personnel and vehicles in the area as the investigation continues."
The investigation is being conducted by the Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service and the Manitoulin OPP crime unit, under the direction of the OPP criminal investigation branch.
