A small community west of Sudbury has been rocked by a violent crime.

Two people suffered serious injuries in the community of Spanish, located on Highway 17, and CTV News is told a man is clinging to life after a vicious altercation.

The Ontario Provincial Police used a drone to fly over the crime scene.

Investigators say they responded to an altercation just after 3 am Friday and there has been a strong police presence ever since, including officers searching dumpsters in the tiny village on Saturday.

Residents say there was a beating and also a stabbing.

Police confirm a 32-year-old woman suffered serious head injuries and a 49-year-old man, life threatening injuries.

A male and female have been arrested in connection to this incident and sources say that the male is 17 years old.

On Sunday, forensic officers suited up to examine the scene, with the drone flying overhead to gather video of the area.

A man who lives in the complex where the altercation took place didn't want to appear on camera, but tells CTV News that there was a murder there a year ago, when an elderly man was beaten to death.

Local residents say this was a former motel, but is now a multi-unit housing complex and that the male victim in this case is the caretaker there.
