In a quiet little town on the North Shore of Lake Huron west of Sudbury, people are shaking their heads about what happened in their community this week.

George Chapman, 68 a newcomer to Spanish, was found dead outside his home on Tuesday night.

People who live in the small town of just over 600 people reacted to the news of the murder with shock and surprise.

“The town is so quiet, and something like this happens, it is pretty crazy," said Wayne McLeod, a Spanish resident.

"It's sad and it is hard to believe," added another local resident, Marcel Garon.

The town's mayor, Ted Clague, didn't know the victim and considers this an isolated incident, saying people shouldn’t feel unsafe.

"We meet with the OPP once a month, and we go over the stats for the whole area.  And generally speaking, we are a very safe community.  But to have something like this happen, it certainly disrupts everything." said Clague.

Late Friday afternoon, the OPP issued a news release saying they arrested a suspect in connection with the murder.

Police said the arrest was made in Spanish, without incident, and they say the suspect is in custody awaiting a court appearance.
