Toronto-area trio charged with drug trafficking in northern Ont.

Three people from southern Ontario were nabbed on Highway 144 over the weekend, leading to a haul of illegal drugs and a handgun.

Ontario Provincial Police pulled the vehicle over around 1 p.m. May 4 on Highway 144 in Hassard Township.

“OPP seized a suspected amount of crack cocaine, fentanyl, marijuana and khat leaves with an estimated street value of $50,000,” police said in a news release Monday.

“Also seized was a loaded Glock 9-mm magazine.”

Charged are a 32-year-old from North York, a 31-year-old from Mississauga and a 17-year-old from Scarborough.

Charges include numerous trafficking and weapons offences, while the young offender was charged with being under age 19 while possessing cannabis.

Both adults remain in custody, while the young offender has been released on bail.
