The Timmins Public Library is celebrating its 100th anniversary Wednesday at an event at Hollinger Park.

The festivities, which run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., “will include local Indigenous, English and French performers, booths from various community partners, as well as food and activities for all,” the library said in a news release.

“The pavilion will serve as the main stage for ceremonies and performers.”

Opening ceremonies begin at 11 a.m. Among those attending are Mayor Michelle Boileau and former Timmins Mayor Jamie Lim.

A commemorative plaque for the centennial will also be unveiled during the ceremony.

Performances begin at 1 p.m. featuring the New Moon Singers, followed by Estelle and John (1:50 p.m.), Mr. Bill (2:40 p.m.) and Will Gillespie (3:30 p.m.)

“Attendees are welcome to bring their own chairs, and parking will be free at the main branch parking lot for the day,” the library said.

“A free BBQ, sponsored by Fountain Tire, will be available beginning at 12 p.m.”

The children’s fun area will include Climb ‘N Fun, crafts, games, and other activities. There will also be a photo booth, historical display and adult mural painting.

Sponsors include Lake Shore Gold, the federal and city governments and Fountain Tire.

A proclamation by Boileau and library board members will be held Monday morning at 10 at the library’s main branch.

There will also be a slideshow on display at the main branch for the duration of the week.

Both branches will be opening late on Wednesday (at 2 p.m.) to “allow staff and encourage members to take part in this once-in-a-lifetime celebration of the Timmins Public Library’s important history and role in our community,” the library said.
