This week’s wicked high heat and humidity is prompting quick action by support groups like the Timmins Housing team…they’re checking up on tenants, especially those who live on upper floors.

Apartment buildings run by the Cochrane District Social Services Administration Board don’t have  conditioning.

Brian Marks of the board says "We try to setup community programs where tenants check on themselves or their neighbours, make sure everything's okay.  In times like this we augment that by having our maintenance guys be a little more vigilant...they are in the units every day. We also mobilize our administration staff to get out into the units and do random door knocks.”

And, information from the Porcupine Health Unit is hand delivered door-to door.

Officials say there are options for those in need or in  distress like the Salvation Army which is providing free meals and water

Craig Wilson of the Salvation Army says "I'm here three to four days a week.  So when I'm here and if someone needs water I give it to them."

While people in the area are used to minus thirty degree weather, it appears many Timmins residents are also in the know when temperatures go sky high.
