Suspected arson being investigated on Manitoulin Island

Arson is suspected in a house fire on Manitoulin Island over the weekend, police say.

Emergency crews were called to a home on Indian Mountain Road, near Sheguiandah, shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday, Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release.

"No one was injured in the fire," OPP said.

Police and Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands Fire Department responded to the call.

OPP Const. Jessica Gilbertson told CTVNewsNorthernOntario.ca in an email, no one was home at the seasonal property at the time of the fire.

With the help of OPP forensic identification services, the Manitoulin detachment is investigating the blaze as an arson.
