SUDBURY -- For the first time, the Sudbury Wolves junior hockey team is hosting a St. Patrick's Day themed game, and it’ll be complete with special occasion jerseys to be auctioned off in support of Ten Rainbows Children's Foundation.
The jerseys were unveiled on Tuesday and they feature the well-known Wolves logo on the front, but with the wolf wearing a green top hat.
"They're nice. I think they'll complement our blue well with the blue in it. And I like the little cap on top of the wolf," said Wolves captain Macauley Carson.
A number of the jerseys will be auctioned off throughout the game on Tuesday March 17 at the Sudbury Arena, with a silent auction and others will be available through an online auction until March 21st.
The jerseys will be worn in a game against the North Bay Battalion, and Carson says his team will be playing extra hard.
"I think anytime we do these types of jersey games we know it's going towards a good cause. And this is helping obviously children in need. So anytime we have a cause like that, that we're all kind of going towards it makes the game that much more important for us."
There is no financial target for the auction, but officials with the Ten Rainbows Children's Foundation say all money raised will go right back into the community to help children in financial and medical need.
Kathey Marynuk, a representative for Ten Rainbows Children's Foundation, says it is extra special to pair up with this particular team in the city.
"It's amazing because some of the challenged kids that we deal with, they love hockey. So anything we can do to be associated with that and the goodness that the Sudbury Wolves portray with their young men they're fabulous. For our Ten Rainbows Association to be associated with them, it's a dream come true for us."
On top of the option to win a themed jersey, there will also be the chance for someone to win free pizza for a year from Topper's Pizza.
Tuesday’s game will also feature live entertainment and green beer available for purchase.
