Sudbury's Adanac Ski Hill to open for the season Friday

Share

The City of Greater Sudbury will be opening one of its two ski hills for the season on Friday.

Adanac Ski Hill, in New Sudbury on Beatrice Crescent, is expected to have four of its seven runs open on Dec. 27.

The ski hill is set to open almost every day after Boxing Day until Jan. 6, except New Year's Day. The hill will be open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and weekends from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. – though it will close early at 2 p.m. on New Year's Eve.

“Operating hours are dependent on weather conditions and may change without notice,” said city officials in an email to CTV News.

“Regular operating hours resume on Monday, January 6, 2025.”

Lift tickets are available for purchase at the ski hill with cash, credit or debit. Visitors may choose from either a half day or a full day.

Lively Ski Hill on First Avenue remains closed at this time and there is no set date for it to open at this time.

“It will open when there is a sufficient amount of natural and man-made snow on the ski runs and lift areas,” said the city in its email.

“Consistent daily temperatures of -15 C and below are needed for the snow making system to be effective.”

The city added a relative humidity of 20 per cent or less is also required for snow making at the Lively site and that strong winds can delay snowmaking to prevent snow from drifting into the immediate area.

“January openings are not unheard of at Lively Ski Hill,” reads the City of Greater Sudbury website.

“(Openings) tend to fluctuate between Dec. 27 to Jan. 17.”
