SUDBURY -- As a result of the first confirmed COVID-19 case in Sudbury, Health Sciences North is implementing a daily update on the local virus situation at the hospital. Check back here daily for the most recent information.
As of March 13, HSN says it has no admitted patients who have tested positive for COVID-19.
Hospital officials say the situation is being monitored closely and regular operations continue.
No visitor restrictions have been put in place at the hospital, outside of the emergency department, but those who are not feeling well should stay away.
Patient volume continues over capacity, so the public is encouraged to see alternative care at clinics for non-urgent medical issues.
HSN continues to be one of a select group of Ontario hospitals that are actively testing patients for COVID-19, even if they have been admitted for other health issues, including influenza. The swab tests are sent to Ontario's Toronto lab for proactive community surveillance.
Dr. Penny Sutcliffe, medical officer of health with Public Health Sudbury and Districts, said as of Wednesday night, 20 patients had been tested in Sudbury for COVID-19.
Emergency Department
Patients with suspected COVID-19 symptoms should not bring visitors with them to the emergency department of the hospital.
Patients going to the emergency department for other issues are asked to only bring others with them if it is absolutely necessary.
Additional triage has been set up at the emergency entrance as part of enhanced screening measures, so patients no longer have to call ahead if coming with suspected virus symptoms.
