SUDBURY -- Ward 9 Coun. Deb McIntosh was elected to the board of directors of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario at a virtual conference held Aug. 17-19.

McIntosh will sit on the board for regional and single-tier caucus. As a member of the board, McIntosh will help set policy for the association and serve as a key municipal leader in the province, AMO said in a news release.

"As a member of the AMO board I will work with my colleagues to ensure that provincial legislation and direction is equitable and fair to all Ontario municipalities and Ontarians," McIntosh said in a message to CTV News.

"I look forward to working with my AMO colleagues from all over Ontario to help the province work toward an even better Ontario."

Newly elected AMO President Graydon Smith said in the news release that AMO benefits from a diversity of membership from the province's local governments.

"To that end, I am pleased to have Deb McIntosh on the 2020-2022 Board team,” said Smith.

AMO’s memorandum of understanding with the province gives it the opportunity to provide input on decisions impacting municipal governments. AMO staff works on dozens of policy files that impact people’s daily lives – ranging from safe roads, public health and safety and many more.
