Sudbury area safety blitz sees 12 commercial vehicle taken off the road
A three-day safety blitz performed by Sudbury and provincial police alongside the Ministry of Transportation saw 12 commercial vehicles taken off the road and dozens of charges laid.
Police inspected 59 commercial vehicles in the Greater Sudbury area between June 10 and 12, Sudbury police said in a news release.

June 10-12, 2024 (OPP)A dozen commercial vehicles were taken out of service due to brakes being inoperable, having damaged trailer connections, drivers having the wrong class of license or no Commercial Vehicle Operator’s Registration (CVOR), police said.

Ontario Provincial Police said 77 total charges were laid to both drivers and companies.
Charges include:
- Overweight vehicle
- Improper class of licence
- Emissions violations
- Insecure loads
- Defective braking systems
- Drive while suspended
- Speeding
- No CVOR
- Fail to complete daily inspections
- No insurance
- No annual inspection sticker
- Improper trailer connection

June 10-12, 2024 (Ontario Provincial Police)On the last day of the blitz, a 34-year-old driver from Regina was also charged with careless driving after the tractor-trailer they were driving rolled over on Highway 17 east off-ramp at Highway 69.

No injuries were sustained in the rollover, but the ramp was closed for four hours during the investigation and vehicle removal.
