Strike averted at northern medical school

Share

It is business as usual for students, faculty and staff at NOSM University tomorrow – the school reached a tentative agreement with the union representing medical education faculty, librarians and professional staff.

In a statement posted to the NOSM University website on Sunday, the school confirmed the deal with OPSEU Local 677 – which is subject to a ratification vote and board approval.

“NOSM University will operate as normal on Monday,” reads the statement.

The union had previously issued a no-board report putting them in a legal strike positional as of 12:01 a.m. Sunday morning.

Negotiating teams had been meeting since Nov. 1 to work something out.

In previous media releases, the union had said key issues included working conditions and job security.

NOSM was founded in 2005 and become a standalone university last year.

It has campuses in Thunder Bay and Sudbury.
