The Municipality of West Nipissing has officially ended its month-long state of emergency.
A notice on the municipality’s website Monday said Mayor Joanne Savage has lifted the emergency declaration that was put in place May 9, 2019.
Road closures for Hillman Road and Avenue du Lac also have been lifted, while all other road closures remain in effect.
Boat launch availability remains limited, with the secondary boat launch in Cache Bay and the launch at Minnehaha Bay open to the public.
The water level on Lake Nipissing was at an elevation of 196.31 metres near North Bay as of Monday morning, according to the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority, falling approximately three centimetres over the previous 24 hours.
Although some areas in the West Nipissing community remain impacted by high water levels, flood conditions are expected to improve over the coming days.
The Town of Mattawa, which has endured significant flooding from rising water levels on the Ottawa and Mattawa Rivers, ended its state of emergency June 3, but the Municipality of French River's state of emergency, declared on May 26, remains in effect.
Meanwhile, strong westerly winds could drive up water levels on the east side of Lake Nipissing, including at the City of North Bay and Municipality of Callander.
Officials will continue to monitor the situation and keep the public informed.
