SUDBURY -- Environment Canada has issued a snow squall warning for the Sault Ste. Marie area Tuesday.

The heaviest bands of snow are expected to develop Tuesday afternoon and continue overnight into Wednesday.

An accumulation of up to 15 cm within a 12-hour period is likely.

The snow squalls are produced by cold westerly air flow over the relatively warm waters of Lake Superior.

Drivers should prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions and sudden reduced visibility during times of heavy snow.
