SUDBURY -- A brother and sister in Sault Ste. Marie are sharing a $50,000 lottery win after playing an instant scratch ticket.
Shirley Downes, a 68-year-old retiree, and her 64-year-old semi-retired brother, Walter Baker, recently won the top prize in OLG's Instant Crossword game.
The pair says they often play instant win games together and love to go to the casino.
"I called Walter and said 'you’d better get over here!' He asked what was wrong and I said, 'we just won $50,000!'" said Downes, a mother of four, who had played the game at her house.
Baker didn't believe her at first.
"I thought she was lying to me," laughed Baker, a father of eight.
Shirley plans to buy a car with her share of the winnings, while Walter says he will leave the decision making to his wife.
"I was so shocked I was sick and Walter is still in disbelief," said Downes.
The winning ticket was purchased at Station Mall Drug Mart on Bay Street in Sault Ste. Marie.
