Sault suspect on probation arrested with drugs, knife and $5K in cash

A 34-year-old in Sault Ste. Marie who was wanted for a probation violation was found this week with a switchblade, drugs, a digital scale and $5,170 in cash.

In a news release Friday, Sault police said officers conducted a traffic stop around 8:30 p.m. Oct. 9 near Bruce Street and Grosvenor Avenue.

"Upon approaching the vehicle officers observed the accused in the passenger seat, and determined they were wanted for failing to comply with a probation order," police said.

"The accused was arrested. A subsequent search of the accused found them to be in possession of a knife that opens by hand pressure applied to a button, approximately 14 grams of a substance believed to be fentanyl, a digital scale, and $5,170."

The estimated street value of the drugs seized is $2,100.

Charges include five weapons-related charges, including two counts of possessing a weapon while prohibited, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, drug trafficking and violating a probation order.

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
