Sault suspect charged with attacking victim with a hammer

A 45-year-old in Sault Ste. Marie has been charged following an assault June 12 that involved the use of a hammer.

Police responded around 10:30 p.m. to a report of someone attacking the victim – who is known to them -- in the area of Queen Street East and Millwood Street.

“Officers located the accused coming out of a wooded area and they were arrested,” police said in a news release Monday.

“A search of the accused found them to be in possession of a knife and a pellet gun resembling a firearm. Further investigation revealed the accused had gotten into an argument and struck a victim with a hammer. The victim did not require medical attention.”

Charges include assault with a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 12.
