Police in Espanola are warning area residents of a phone scam that has tricked an elderly couple out of a lot of money.
They say the couple was contacted by someone pretending to be a lawyer in Ottawa, informing them their son had been arrested and needed money for legal services.
After several money transfers, the couple learned they had lost over $100,000.
