Greater Sudbury police are investigating after a 26-year-old female pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle in the Naughton area Monday morning.

It happened around 5 a.m. on MR55 and Simon Lake Road near Gorman Street in Walden, Sudbury police said in a news release.

"The driver of the motor vehicle involved in the collision remained on scene," police said.

"Upon arrival, Greater Sudbury Paramedic Services and Greater Sudbury Police Services began life-saving measures on the pedestrian who had been struck by the vehicle on the roadway."

MR55 between Simon Lake Road and Gorman Street will be closed in both directions during the investigation. There is no estimated reopening time.

 "We are asking the public to avoid the area and find alternative routes of travel," police said.

"Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact police at 705-675-9171 or Crime Stoppers at 705-222-8477."
