Northern Ont. driver charged after pickup truck ends up in ditch
A 46-year-old driver from Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory has been charged after a pickup truck ended up in the ditch at the junction of Highway 17 and 108 in Northshore Township last weekend.
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to a vehicle in the ditch at about 10 p.m. on Dec. 14.
"The driver of the black pickup truck was spoken to who exhibited signs of impairment,” said police in a news release.
“After further investigation, it was also learned that the driver was on previous release conditions not to communicate with or be around the passenger in the truck.”
Officers subsequently arrested the driver and towed and impounded the vehicle.
The driver was charged with operation while impaired by drugs, dangerous operation of a vehicle, being unaccompanied by a qualified driver as a class G1 licence holder, failing to report an accident and two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court in Elliot Lake on Feb. 6, 2025.
None of the accusations has been proven in court.

“The OPP remind motorists that no amount of alcohol or drug is acceptable to consume and drive. Report impaired drivers,” said police.
“Should you observe a suspected impaired driver, please dial 911 or contact the Ontario Provincial Police.”
