A North Bay Police School Liaison Officer has completed an investigation involving an allegation that a young person brought a weapon to a high school in North Bay.

As a result of the investigation police have arrested and charged a young person from North Bay with:

  • Two counts of Possession of Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • One count of Assault with a Weapon
  • One count of Possession of a Prohibited Weapon
  • One count of Uttering Threats

The investigation alleges that the young person was in possession of an imitation handgun and a flick knife. Over the last several weeks assaultive behavior against other young people was exhibited and at one point the imitation handgun had been observed at a high school.

School officials acted on information and the police were contacted. The weapons have been seized by police. The young person has been released from custody and will appear in a North Bay Courthouse on December 12th 2018.

North Bay Police advise that the information involving the imitation handgun being at a school was dated information.  When school officials acted on this information police were contacted. Safety procedures have been and continue to be accessed and practised for the safety of participants in our school system.

In accordance with Canada’s Youth Criminal Justice Act, the North Bay Police Service will not be releasing the name, or any other information, that may lead to the identification of the accused.
