SUDBURY -- The City of North Bay opened municipal boat launches at 3 p.m. Thursday following an announcement by the province that some restrictions related to COVID-19 are being lifted.
Boat launches that have opened include ones located at Champlain Park, Sunset Park and Armstrong Park.
"Physical distancing and safety protocols must be maintained at all times," the city said in a news release. "The Waterfront Marina boat launch will open Saturday."
Rules around using public boat launches include:
- If another boater is launching a boat when you arrive, please queue in line and remain in your vehicle until they are finished.
- Do not congregate near the boat launch prior to or after launching your boat.
- Ensure you are maintaining a distance of two metres apart from others while loading/unloading boats and while on the waterways.
- Ensure you are practicing safe and responsible boating practices in order to minimize the need for emergency service response.
The Waterfront Marina and boat launches have been closed in light of recommendations discouraging non-essential travel and in accordance with the provincial emergency order issued March 30, the release said, which required the closure of all outdoor recreational amenities.
"Today’s announcement by the province will also allow for the opening on Saturday of the marina," the release said. "Marina customers are asked to call the office at (705) 495-3959 to book a dock slip appointment."
