North Bay man charged with assault at retirement home

A North Bay man is facing criminal charges after allegedly damaging property at a retirement home and attempting to assault staff and residents.

There were some tense moments Monday night when the 36-year-old suspect entered the Fraser Street facility and started acting aggressively.

It happened around 6:50 p.m. and caused staff and residents to fear for the safety, North Bay police said.

The facility was placed on lockdown and police were able to arrest the man by 7 p.m.

He is charged with assault, causing a disturbance, mischief under $5,000 and failing to comply with a release order.

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
