Thick smoke could be seen in the air above the fire in a detached garage on Metcalfe Avenue near Falconbridge Road in the community of Garson.

According to officials, Greater Sudbury fire crews from six different stations responded to the call around 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 4. Multiple stations were involved due the proximity to other properties and the volume of smoke reported.

Deputy Fire Chief Jesse Oshell told CTV News that the garage and a vehicle inside were both a total loss and there was some damage to nearby buildings.

Oshell estimated the damage as about $200,000.

Oshell said the fire was “not suspicious,” and added that careless cooking involving a deep fryer is likely to blame for the blaze.

No one was injured and no one has been displaced because of the fire.
