Police in Sault Ste. Marie say multiple arrests made on Wednesday, August 28 are connected to illegal marijuana grow operation.  

Several units of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, along with the Canadian Border Services Agency, carried out search warrants at a house on Walters Street after an investigation that began earlier this month.

Four local people were found inside the residence ranging from 22 to 37 years of age and were all arrested as a result of the search.

Inside the residence, officers found a marijuana grow operation with around 70 plants at varying stages of growth, along with methamphetamine, oxycodone pills, and cocaine.  Two firearms, three prohibited weapons, cash, packing materials, as well as ammunition were also found inside the home.

Two of the four people, a 23-year-old and a 37-year-old, arrested are now facing a bulk of the charges including:

  • Cultivating
  • Careless storage of a weapon
  • Possession of: a controlled substances, for the purpose of distributing and trafficking, proceeds of crime, and prohibited weapons

The 37-year-old man is also charged with importing without authority.

The other two accused are each facing one charge, outstanding warrants and possession of a prohibited weapon.  They are scheduled to appear in court on October 7, while the other two have been held for bail court.
